The Service Department is responsible for maintaining 134 lane miles of Township roadways, two (2) cemeteries, and eight (8) parks. The department has 13 service workers, 1 head mechanic, an administrative assistant, a road superintendent and a service director. It is the Service Department's primary job to keep the roads in good condition no matter what the season. When the threat of snow has passed they repair roads, re-establish ditches for proper stormwater runoff, keep storm drains clean and open, remove problem trees in right-of-ways, and assist the Township with numerous other jobs that would otherwise have to be contracted elsewhere. Three days a year the service department staff helps with the set-up and clean-up of the annual Concord Township Community Days celebration that takes place over Labor Day weekend. The Concord Township Community Paper Shredding day will be at Town Hall on: Saturday, May 15th 10:00 a.m. to Noon This is for residents only and is limited to three (3) boxes only per resident.
Concord Township is currently looking for acceptable sites for the disposal of excavated material. The material generally consists of clean earth, broken concrete or asphalt, and gravel. While this material is suitable for general fill it should not be used where building foundations will later be placed. The material will be dumped in place but will not be graded or compacted by the Township. The property owner will also be responsible for obtaining any permits or approvals from all regulatory agencies prior to the placement of the fill material. If you have interest in obtaining this material please call Terry Gerson, Service Director, at 440-354-7510 extension 108.
Residents should be aware that the Township has made a significant change to our road salting and snow removal policy this year. Because of the extreme increase in the price of bulk road salt this year (salt prices jumped from $40.42 per ton last season to $63.34 per ton this season) we are forced to conserve on our use of road salt this year. This coming year we will be limiting our use of salt to steep hills, sharp curves, and intersections. For other portions of our roads we will use little if any salt except for the salt that may be "tracked" in from nearby salted areas. While we do not expect to reduce our actual financial expenditures for salt this year, we hope to be able to avoid a substantial increase in financial expenditures. The reduced salt use will make snow and ice removal extremely difficult and we expect that many of our roads will be ice and snow covered during much of the coming winter. One advantage to reduced salt usage will be that we hope to see less salt related damages to our roads and to our environment. Excess salt can be damaging to the concrete pavement and salt laden runoff can be damaging to our creeks, streams and lake. The biggest disadvantage will be our inability to effectively remove snow from our unsalted roads. This in turn can result in icy road conditions, vehicular damage accidents, and personal injury. We urge our residents to be extra careful in driving or walking on our streets this coming year. We regret that we will probably not be able to provide the same level of snow and ice removal service as we have in the past years, but we will certainly do our best to keep our roads clear and safe for you. We ask for your patience and understanding in this matter.
During the winter, waste containers shall not be placed in the roadway. They should be placed in the driveway. Please keep them off the roads so that our snowplow operators can keep our roadways clean and safe for public transportation. If waste containers are left on the road, they may be damaged by the snowplows.

The Service Department will be supplying the labor to install snow barricades for residents living on Concord Township maintained roadways at no charge. These barricades consist of two steel posts, reflective numbers, hardware and non corrosive aluminum board. The materials must be purchased from Concord Township at the cost of $66. These barricades absorb the impact of heavy snow that is being discharged from the snow plows. Please keep in mind that this barricade is not a guarantee that your mailbox will not be damaged during the course of the winter season, but it will help against snow that is thrown from the snow plow. If you are interested in having the Service Department install a snow barricade, please stop by Town Hall and fill out a installation form You can also print the application form by clicking Snow Barricade Application. Once the form is complete and the material reimbursement is submitted, we will schedule an installation. This will be a one time installation and all maintenance thereafter is the responsibility of the resident.
Brush Days Concord Township's next brush days drop off will be held at the Service Department May 8th and May 15th between the hours of 8:00 am until 2:00pm. Materials will be processed into wood chips that are available to Concord Township residents. Only limbs, twigs, branches with a diameter of four inches or smaller will be permitted. No tree stumps, pallets, contaminated material, trash, leaves, grass, lumber or railroad ties will be accepted. Please call 354-7510 ext 108 with any questions.
Concord Township residents should be aware that lawn irrigation systems should not be installed within the road right-of-way. Sprinkler heads and lines are sometimes damaged by snow removal efforts and road repair projects. The standard road right-of-way can be established by measuring 30' from the center of the roadway. On cul-de-sacs, irrigation systems should be placed at least 10' from the roadway. Irrigation systems that are within the road right-of-way are not subject to repair by the Service Department.
Concord recycling drop off site:
Town Hall- Between Buildings "B" and "C"
The drop-off sites have 20-yard, enclosed containers with sliding doors (known as doghouse-style containers). These containers are better suited to accommodate the volume of recyclables. The recyclables will not need to be separated by product type. However, as before, please break down large boxes before disposing of them to conserve space and as a consideration to other Township residents. The contractor, Waste Management, has quite a sophisticated technology for separating the material.
