Concord Fire Explorer Post 2354

Congratulations to Concord Township resident and Fire Explorer
Katie Hogen
for her heroic actions in delivering lifesaving first aid to a Florida resident who had collapsed. Katie directed bystanders to call 911, while she initiated CPR and provided vital information to the 911 dispatchers.  After the arrival of first responders, Katie was instructed to assist rescuers by continuing with CPR.

Katie was presented with a resolution by the Concord Township Trustees on August 15 in recognition of her lifesaving services.

What is Exploring?

Fire Service Exploring is a worksite-based program through the Learning-for-Life division of the Boy Scouts of America.  The program is developed for young adults from ages 14 (and having completed 8th grade) to 21 years.  The Fire Exploring purpose is to provide experiences to help young adults prepare for a career in the fire and EMS fields.

      Meetings

Post members attend regular meeting and drills to learn about the different aspects of firefighting and EMS, such as structural firefighting, hose lays, SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), ladders, bandaging, splinting and back boarding, station equipment maintenance, personal   fitness, and safety in the station.  Explorers work side-by-side with Concord Fire Department Firefighters to obtain hands on and classroom training.
